How do I arrange my bookshelves? Here's a secret...I don't! I know, you are probably now asking why the heck I am even writing this post then. I have a couple of reasons. When I read posts about people organizing their bookshelves everyone is always amazing me with their methods. What makes this hard, though, is that I feel like no one else does what I do. I mean, what kind of post about organizing bookshelves just says it doesn't. This one!

I don't know about you, but I have a decent commute. I drive about half an hour to work and half an hour on the way home. I'm not a huge fan of audiobooks just because my mind tends to wander on my commute since I'm gearing up to teach. In desperate need of something to listen to, I found podcasts and am in love. Below I've listed some of my favorites.
I hate reading about other readers and all the books they read. Yes, I do find this complicated since I am a reader who writes about the books she reads. I do enjoy seeing what other people read because I love books so much, but it gives me so much book envy! Do you know what I'm talking about? It's that little part of me that wishes I could hole myself up in a little room with a comfortable chair, a book, and a cup of tea and read all day long. That little part of me never gets its way because I work full time, am married, and have two young children. So when I see what other people are reading I can't stand it!
Have you ever enjoyed the concept of a book so much that you just really wanted to read it? This happens to me for so many short story collections. I am in love with them because they usually allow me to live in so many different worlds all in one short book. This was certainly the case with Curtis Sittenfeld's collection You Think It, I'll Say It.
That's right, folks! Today is another opportunity to hear about a book my daughters cannot get enough of. I love these days because it feels like such a fresh opportunity to chat about a sweet book that is pure, simple, and fun. I mean, who doesn't love a good picture book? Now, I am not going to say that this is great literature, but it is fun and is a great book for any of you with young kids or people who may have a young kid they have to buy presents for. (I know...I have seven nieces and nephews.)
I started out this year with a goal. I was going to start a blog about reading, books, and the bookish life. I would post three times a week about the books I was reading or other topics. This was my goal. Oh how it got blown out of the water.
I'm not always a fan of books being turned into movies. In fact, a lot of the time I become grouchy when the movie changes aspects of the book that I really loved. That's why I am super nervous about the movie that comes out today: The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. I read this book back before I was an English major and reading was something I was just beginning to love again after high school, so I have a lot of fond memories of reading it. I remember beginning to care about the characters and wanting to see them thrive. I feel like I have a lot of expectations for this movie, but I always wonder if that's fair of me.
I have been on a memoir kick the past several weeks. I'm not usually a fan of biography or even autobiography, but something about a memoir just gets to the heart and soul of what I love to read. When I read a memoir I feel like I can connect with another person and learn so much about their life experience and culture. This is why I selected The Girl Who Smiled Beads for my Book of the Month box for April. I just knew it would be a book I would love.
I began this book thinking I would enjoy a sweet story of a girl and her friend who start a place for bookish people to hang out. It seemed right up my alley, and I was super pumped. What I got was nothing like that. I don't want to say that the book was terrible because that is not true, but I think it was just not the right book for me.
The Pulitzer Prize in Fiction is a huge deal. It is a mega deal. And it only comes around once a year, so make sure you pay attention when it does. It just so happens that today is the day, and the Pulitzer Prize in Fiction has been announced. I will admit that I have not read this year's winner, but the book is now in my cart on Amazon waiting to be ordered. This year's winner is...
