One of my favorite things about reading with my daughters every night before bed is getting to see which books they love and what they relate to. This month one of the favorites is Muddypaws by Moira Butterfield and Simon Mendez.

That means everything you ever did, you almost didn’t do. My Name is Venus Black by Heather LloydWhen I saw this book I was immediately drawn to its cover. The art was whimsical in the way I like, and I am also drawn in by stars and things like that. When I picked this book, though, I was not aware of how many interesting themes it would cover and how excited I would be to share it with my students.
An eccentric protagonist with anxiety, a rich almost boyfriend whose father is missing, and a best friend who writes Star Wars fan fiction—what more could you want from a novel?
Happy Saturday! I hope you have some time today to curl up with a good book! We’re a bit busy here between Bible study and youth group today for church, but I still plan to get some good reading done before the day is up. Right now I’m working on reading in preparation for the Tournament of Books which will begin March 7th. I have some really big plans for covering the tournament, so I hope you’ll check back. Anyway, today I’m continuing to read through some incredible books. Keep reading to find out which ones.
Have you ever wondered about the moments that make up a person’s life. I think about this all the time, so I read memoirs in order to satisfy my curiosity. Most memoirs have one problem, though. They are often uniquely designed around one more major life event instead of all the little moments that make up a life. Beth Ann Fennelly’s memoir, Heating and Cooling, breaks this pattern beautifully.
What Are We Doing Here? by Marilynne RobinsonI have long been in love with Marilynne Robinson’s fiction, but for one reason or another I had yet to read a collection of her essays, though I oena few of them. Fortunately that all changed when I requested a copy of What Are We Doing Here?
I never reread books. It’s a policy I have. There’s simply not enough time. How can I justify spending time on something I’ve already read when there are books I haven’t read waiting for me?
Today is a crazy day! I’m taking some students to a forensics (speech and drama) meet today, so I won’t be getting too much reading done. That being said, there are four books I am currently working through to bring you some great stuff very soon. I write a little bit about my current thoughts on each book below, so if you’re interested in what is coming up on the blog and what I’m bringing with me to our meet, check it out!
I have read The Old Man and the Sea many times. Hemingway’s story is somewhat simple, yet much multitude hides underneath his simple story of an old man catching the fish of his life. While Hemingway’s novel is sometimes given guff by the literary elite, I think this novel has much to teach readers and is very much worth our time.
Happy Valentine’s Day!!! I hope you’re doing something fun to celebrate. Personally, I’ll be enjoying a nice meal at home with my husband and two sweet kiddos. By this I mean it will probably be a usual crazy meal around our table.
No matter what you’re doing tonight, we all need a good book to cuddle up with and enjoy, so what follows is a list of books you can’t help but fall in love with. |
