”The dinosaurs were all wiped out a long way back in history. No one knows quite how or why. Now this book solves the mystery.”
I never anticipated I would have these words memorized, yet they are permanently etched in my brain. Why? Because Dinosaurs Love Underpants is one of my two year old’s favorite books!

I can hardly believe it has been over three months since I started blogging about my reading! I have read so many books, written a ton more than I normally do, and had the opportunity to get to know so many book people on Instagram! Today I just want to check in on my reading progress so far this year. As you may or may not know, I set a goal to read 75 books this year, and somehow I seem to be outperforming so far. Last year I read over 80 books, but I think this year is going to turn out to be my best reading year yet!
Have you ever had a book punch you in the gut? I mean punch you in the way that makes you realize you know nothing. This does not happen to me very often, but The Fox Hunt, which comes out today was a book that kept me engaged and taught me so much.
As someone without siblings I always wonder what that type of family dynamic feels like. Reading Go Ask Fannie gave me a glimpse into that world and experience. In the novel three siblings come home to their father's house for the weekend. As happens in many cases, drama comes knocking and blows the family's world to pieces. I loved it!
Some of you may not know this about me—I am an English teacher...it’s true. I’ve even had people tell me I look like an English teacher (mega-giant eye roll because apparently we all look the same...not!). Part of my job as a teacher is to provide my students with ample opportunity and choices in their reading. This means keeping up with new releases as well as kicking it back to the classics like The Great Gatsby (my personal favorite). In this post I just want to chat about why I think the classics are important and why they can still apply to students today.
I am always on the lookout for books that will appeal to boys. Generally finding books for girls, especially my high school students, is pretty easy. They know what they like, and tons of those books exist. My boys usually only know that they like Gary Paulsen, so when I try to find something they might enjoy reading I feel extremely limited. That's why I knew I wanted to read Country Dark as soon as I saw the cover. Just looking at it I knew it would be a book a guy would enjoy. What I didn't expect is that it would be a book I would enjoy as well.
As a high school teacher I hear a lot about anxiety, depression, ADHD, and other mental illnesses. Part of my job is providing support to students who struggle and to be there for them when they need assistance. This is why I selected Life Inside My Mind as a Book I wanted to read and review. I found it such an incredible opportunity to read 30 essays written by those who have a close relationship with mental illness because it helps me to be a better support for those who need my help. This book comes out on April 10th, and I hope you keep reading this review so you can see if it’s a book you might want to read, too!
March 2018 Statistics:
Books Read: 21 Pages Read: 6564 Favorite: Goodbye, Vitamin Least Favorite: The End of Eddy March was a crazy reading month for me, and I am really quite proud of how much I was able to read. The Tournament of Books kept me busy. I know this won’t be every month, but it’s nice to know that I can read this much in a month when I set my mind to it. Happy reading! What would you do if you were given over one hundred visions of the future and they all started coming true? Would you sell this information to the highest bidder? How about trying to make sure they didn’t happen? Or maybe some of you would just try to ignore them entirely. Thankfully Will Dando is the one who has to figure this out in the suspenseful and thought provoking novel The Oracle Year.
I am always drawn in by a beautiful book cover. Always. Border Districts is one of those books I was instantly attracted to, so I read a little more about it. When I found out how interesting it sounded I knew I had to read the book, and I am so grateful to the publisher FSG for providing me with a copy. If you also find the cover design breathtakingly simple, keep reading to find out whether the book inside is one you will love as well.
