Today is a crazy day! I’m taking some students to a forensics (speech and drama) meet today, so I won’t be getting too much reading done. That being said, there are four books I am currently working through to bring you some great stuff very soon. I write a little bit about my current thoughts on each book below, so if you’re interested in what is coming up on the blog and what I’m bringing with me to our meet, check it out! What Are We Doing Here?I am about halfway through Marilynne Robinson’s soon to be released book of essays, What Are We Doing Here?. I received a review copy from the publisher and have been enjoying Robinson’s brilliance in her writing. She never ceases to amaze me. Check back on Tuesday (2/20) for a review of this book. My Name is Venus BlackI’m a little over halfway through this wonderful book. It follows the story of a young girl who serves time for a crime she committed early in her life. When she is released at the age of nineteen she emerges into an unfamiliar and hostile world. I have really enjoyed reading My Name is Venus Black so far and look forward to sharing my review of this book when it is released on February 27! GoI picked up this book for Amazon’s Prime reading program where you get a free kindle book of a soon-to-be-released book. I have not read much of Go yet since it is not set to be published until March 1st, which is when I will post about it. What I know so far is that it has an intriguing plot about some teen romance as well as some detailed background history on the relationship between North Korea, South Korea, and Japan. I can’t wait to keep reading more of this book to learn more. Manhattan BeachI started this novel a while back, and then I got crazy busy with books I received from publishers to review. I’m still slowly working through this novel when I get the time, and I really am enjoying it. I have not read much, but I find the main character intriguing and am enjoying the setting of the book. I promise more will come from Manhattan Beach when I get a chance to read it!
