I don’t typically read historical fiction. Do you? If you do, you’ll likely enjoy this book. Even if you don’t, though, don’t write this book off right away. I planned to dread this read a little bit, but I committed to reading it since it was nominated for the Golden Man Booker Prize; I am so happy I ended up reading this one.
Young adult literature is one of my favorite things to read. How about you? If this is genre is one that you love, then you might consider picking up this book. The story follows a teenage girl, Miranda Black, as she nears the end of high school. Miranda is dealing with all sorts of troubles: her mother left years ago t join a cult, she has to decide where she wants to go to college, and the boy she’s in love with stood her up...to prom! If that weren’t enough, her best friend, Syd, has run away, leaving Miranda to pick up the pieces.
Who doesn't love a book about books? And when that book is also a coffee table book with lovely artwork and short essays, who can resist? Certainly not me. That is why I couldn't stop myself from ordering this book from Amazon even though my TBR stack is threatening to tip over. I mean, really, can you blame me?
I love book award season! Any list of books I should read because of how awesome they are is my best friend. In A Free State is the fourth book I read that was nominated for the Golden Man Booker Prize Award, and I definitely understand how it earned its place on this list of five incredible books.
This is the third book I picked up for the Golden Man Booker Prize award. I didn’t really know what to expect with this book, and I did not read anything about it before I began. What I found was a full novel that explores the intricacies of various people who are all somehow stuck orbiting one man whom they call the English patient because they do not know his name.
How many of the Golden Man Booker Prize books have you read? I had only read one before the finalists were announced, so I have had quite a bit of reading to do in order to review them for you guys. Today I’ll be reviewing the second one I read: Moon Tiger. I wasn’t sure what to expect from this book, and the cover is certainly interesting; in the end, I enjoyed the book, but it is not likely to be my top choice to win this award (not that they really care too much what I think).
Do you love a book that is entertaining as well as educational? Personally, I do; I especially love it when a book teaches me about people and the things that happened in their lives, and this is exactly why I enjoyed reading Near Death Experiences by Robert Gottlieb.
I am not a huge history buff. Are you? If you are, I can almost guarantee you will love this book. If you are not, though, I want you to hang on here for a moment because The Removes by Tatjana Soli may end up being a book you will enjoy, too. The novel focuses on the lives of several people who are pulled into the tension surrounding the period of time when the United States attempted to settle the western part of our country. General Custer, Libbie Custer, and Anna, a young frontierswoman face challenges and change into people they would never have expected to become.
Have you heard of this book yet? I mean, it won the Man Booker Prize for 2017, was runner-up for the Tournament of Books, and is the first novel by incredible story teller George Saunders. If this is the first time you have heard of this book, go pick it up now! If you have heard of it already and haven't read it, what's stopping you? Really! It is an incredible book, deserving of all the attention its received. Plus, now it is on the short list for the Golden Man Booker Prize. You should totally read this book!
