I read this book in one day! It was intriguing to read because the concept is one I have not encountered often in my reading. In the book, the narrator is writing back and forth with her son who has passed away. In the writings, the two discuss various aspects of life and death, though no topics are particularly serious...more like the kinds of things you discuss when you’ve known someone for a long time.

I saw this book recommended by so many people, and it had been sitting on my @netgalley shelf for some time; I thought that now would be the perfect time to dive into this book, and I’m so happy that I did.
This week has been a little crazy. I’ve travelled for work, stayed home with a sick kid, and planned a future trip. It’s been mildly stressful. In the midst of all this, I read CLIFFORD by Harold R. Johnson. House of Anansi was kind enough to send me a review copy (#partner), and I am so glad they did because somehow this ended up being the perfect book for me right now.
I must begin by saying that I adored THE ATLAS OF REDS AND BLUES by Devi S Laskar! I read it quickly, mostly in just one day, and I feel like it just perfectly says so much while also saying so little. Each section in this book is quite short, focusing in on a moment our narrator remembers as she is lying on her driveway after being shot by police and waiting for the ambulance to come.
How do you communicate with the people around you? Do you text? Email? Actually talk on the phone or face to face? I know when my husband and I first started dating we were not living within an hour of each other, so we Skyped and texted and talked on the phone. We made it work. Also, many of my friendships with you guys exist in our messages back and forth about topics ranging from books to couches (you know who you are) to the craziness of being a mom of littles. My experience with these forms of communication drew me to WHEN YOU READ THIS by Mary Adkins. Also, thank you to Harper for the free review copy of this wonderful book! #partner
I picked up this book last week not knowing quite what to expect. I knew the plot centered around a man who finds himself in the middle of a live art display, but other than that I did not know what was coming. Fortunately for me, what came out of this book was a wonderful, interesting, entertaining, and thought provoking story of a young man who reflects on moments in his life while kind of accidentally participating in an experimental art project.
Do you consider yourself a good person? What would you do if someone needed help? Would you give up something you love to help somebody else? We all want the answers to these questions to be yes, but often times we don’t help the people around us.
I love essay collections. There is something about learning about new topics that just makes me incredibly happy. I have read some Franzen before, so naturally I was so excited when I received a free review copy of THE END OF THE END OF THE EARTH, which came out recently. Thank you, @fsgbooks!
I am an English teacher, in case you didn’t know, so I kind of geek out about a book that focuses on the life of a college professor teaching a creative writing class. I mean, the idea behind this book is just wonderful, and I knew I had to read it! That’s why I’m so excited to review STILL IN LOVE by Michael Downing.
Do you bake? Do you have a ritual or habit you engage in week after week? In its simplest form this book is about one woman’s desire to make challah every single Friday. When fully considered, though, this book is a reflection of the power of habit and pattern in our lives.
